Welcome to Alan Smithee Presents, producer of DVDs with commentaries and bonus features not to be found anywhere else. Our first release is Alan Smithee Presents 'The Andy Griffith Show.'
4:51 Films is pleased to announce their DVD series Alan Smithee Presents. On these you'll find new commentary and bonus features not to be found on any other DVD. Through commentary, bonus features, and subtitles, Alan Smithee and his guests discuss and make up little known and non-existent facts about the programs.
On our first release Alan Smithee Presents 'The Andy Griffith Show,' Alan is joined by his friend, former CBS Network Executive Johnny Steed. As Alan almost loses it and Johnny barely keeps his mind focused, they offer humorous behind-the-scenes information about the show.
Also on this DVD is commentary by former Mt. Airy sheriff Beaujean “Bo” Taylor. Bo is the original sheriff in Andy Griffith's hometown on whom the writers based their stories that made The Andy Griffith Show great. Of course, when you hear the real stories behind the TV versions, you'll see just how much creative license the writers took to make it palatable to America.
There is also an amazing bonus feature: the original opening for the show. A pilot for a show titled Mayberry, U.S.A. was shot before Andy Griffith was brought on-board. Because of the out-of-court settlement with some of the parties involved in that pilot, this material had never been shown. Now, for the first time in more than 40 years, we present this footage. And after viewing it, you'll see why the original actors were replaced with Andy Griffith and Ron Howard
The DVDs have a lot more to offer including subtitles in English and possibly a DVD first: subtitles in both Street and Braille. There are also Deleted Subtitles, 2nd Assistant Editor's cut of the commentary, and lots more.
