Presents ‘The Andy Griffith Show.’ There are two versions of this
DVD: the Basic Edition and the Deluxe Edition. The Basic Edition is
currently available. The Deluxe Edition will arrive soon.
Alan Smithee Presents ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ Basic Edition
The foundation for this DVD is two of the most beloved episodes of
The Andy Griffith Show: “Barney’s First Car” and “A Wife for
Andy.” You can simply watch and enjoy these episodes as is (complete
with the original epilogue scene). And you can explore the interactive
menus and bonus features that make this an Alan Smithee Presents
edition DVD.

The Original Show Opening
The never before seen original opening for a show called
Mayberry U.S.A. was shot before Andy Griffith was cast to play the
lead. That original pilot was never completed, because
the lead actor was unable to finish filming. The actor playing
the Sheriff's son was also replaced for legal reasons.

Alan Smithee and Johnny Steed
Alan is joined by his friend, former CBS Network Executive Johnny
Steed. Between Alan trying to quell his frustration and Johnny’s
senility sometimes overtaking his ability to remember events, these
two manage to offer consistently funny stories about the
behind-the-scenes going-ons during the production.

fan clubs. Bo is the original sheriff in Andy Griffith’s hometown in
North Carolina on whom the writers based their stories that made
The Andy Griffith Show great. Of course, when you hear the
real stories behind the TV versions, you’ll see just how much creative
license the writers took to make it palpable to America.

Deleted Subtitles
Another DVD first. Instead of deleted scenes from the production,
we feature an entire deleted subtitle track. These subtitles were
done overseas to save money, but a lot got lost in the translation.
Literally. So they were replaced with domestically created subtitles.
